About the Course This course clarifies the diverse technologies used in "smart glass" or "switchable glass," and the applications where each makes the most sense, then narrows the focus onto the properties of polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) technology. The course covers the privacy, energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and other features of smart glass, and guides the designer and architect on appropriate specification.
HSW Justification: 1. Ability to allow for natural light and provide privacy in the same space as occupant needs change. 2. This technology blocks 99% of UV rays. 3. In its opaque state, PDLC technology reduces solar heat gain by up to 40%. 4. This option improves air quality due to no need for bacteria-collecting blinds or drapery, allowing for quick and easy sterilization. 5. Laminated glass is considered a safety glass and can be produced as tempered laminated as well.
